We experience cultural heritage through trying things and doing things in the Virrat Traditional Village. The Traditional Village is a museum which displays the agricultural and forest work traditions. It is a cultural heritage learning environment for the Marttinen youth centre. The aim of the cultural heritage programmes is to help children and young people observe cultural heritage and give them more knowledge about the past as well as life in the bygone days. In the programmes, we learn about history in a practical way and through experience.
We learn about and pass on cultural heritage through interesting activities. Next to Marttinen is the Virrat Traditional Village, which presents the farming and forestry tradition.
On a tour of the traditional village we learn about 19th century peasant life in the Rajalahti House Museum and get to see what life in the past was like in the Hali forest workers’ camp museum. The tour tells you about Finnish history and cultural traditions. A visit to a real house museum is a memorable experience.
