Youth Centre Marttinen renewed its Green Key certificate on 12 December 2025. The Green Key jury granted an extension to Marttinen’s Green Key certification on 12 December 2025. Green Key is the world’s leading environmental label for the tourism industry and a recognition of high-quality, responsible operations. The label demonstrates strong commitment to sustainability, and its criteria reflect the growing expectations of customers and partners regarding responsible tourism services. At Marttinen, we have long worked for a sustainable environment and development, and the certificate makes this work even more visible.
Green Key is an international sustainability certificate for tourism, awarded to more than 3,700 companies in over 60 countries. Its criteria are based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and include requirements for reducing environmental impact, increasing social benefits, and supporting the local economy. The criteria are practical and tailored to the specific characteristics of the tourism sector.
Green Key is also a comprehensive sustainability programme. Participating organisations commit to continuous improvement and report their progress annually, as Marttinen has done this autumn. The programme provides personal guidance, training, and communication materials. The quality of operations is verified through regular on-site audits. The certificate is granted by an independent Green Key jury. Green Key has been promoting sustainable tourism since 1994.
At Youth Centre Marttinen, our values have long aligned with the Green Key criteria, and the certification process has helped make this work more visible. Work on the first application began in spring 2021. Continued commitment and expertise from the entire staff are essential, as the criteria cover all areas of operation. The criteria include 13 categories: environmental management, staff involvement, guest communication, water, cleaning, waste, energy, food, indoor environment, green areas, social responsibility, leisure facilities, and procurement.
For Youth Centre Marttinen, the Green Key certificate is both a recognition of high-quality work and a practical tool that helps us offer our customers even more sustainable and environmentally friendly services.
